El Raval, the most iconic hood of Barcelona

Discover Raval’s fascinating backstreets and diverse international community on this unique two hour walk. We will take you through Romanesque and Medieval architecture, Modernist masterpieces and cool Contemporary cultural spaces, all in one tour! The cultural center is one of the most visited art centers in the whole city, although, its location in Raval means it is focused heavily on the city and urban culture. We will also bring you behind La Boqueria market where the Antic Hospital de la Santa Creu stands, which was once the city’s main hospitals and also the place where Antoni Gaudí died in 1926. You will see the best example of Romanesque architecture in the city! Yes, the Church and former monastery of Sant Pau del Camp. Obviously we can’t let you leave without seeing one of Gaudí’s spectacular masterpieces of architecture, Palau Güell. El Raval Tour in Barcelona

Who?

El Raval is perfect for students being Barcelona’s most colorful district, and possibly the most happening. With some of Barcelona’s best bars, top restaurants and excellent things to see and do, you’ll find much to explore in this tourist center of the city. You will find art at every corner of this district.

If you are a seasoned traveller then I would have no hesitation in recommending this area if you want to experience an authentic and stimulating Barcelona neighbourhood. Raval has a special personality and character all of its own that makes this area a compelling visit.

What?

One of The Barcelonian Authentic Day Tours is our Raval Tour, perfect way to get to know the hidden side of the city.

There is an alternative vibe to the El Raval neighborhood in Barcelona and we will show you the authentic Barcelona through Ravals narrow streets on our unique 2-hour walking tour.

Where?

El Raval is part of the second stage development of historic Barcelona and used to be densely populated until the city walls were removed around the turn of the 20th century and the Eixample area was built.

The Southern part of the Raval, near the port also used to be famous as the city’s red-light district. However in 1988 the government started a huge urban regeneration project and invested a lot of money in cleaning up the area and it has become more modern and safer.

When?

At The Barcelonian we believe in sustainable tourism and authenticity, we accomplish this with small groups, our Raval Tour is never larger than 20 people per group and we only provide this unique tour twice a week, on Wednesdays and Saturdays at 10:00.

Why?

The area is vibrant, historic, authentic and full of personality. It is a lively, multicultural neighbourhood with a huge variety of cafes, restaurants and bars. The area has also become fashionable being host to a wide variety of art studios, galleries and trendy bookshops, not to mention the imposing MACBA and CCCB. Clothes shopping is also a pleasure in El Raval with its small boutiques giving you a truly unique shopping experience.
